For luxury getaways, nothing comes close to staying at resorts and hotels with private pools in-room.
Sometimes the pools are on the deck or terrace of the suite. And sometimes the swimming pools are actually in the room!
We’ve been fortunate enough to experience some of the world’s best luxury hotels with private pools – from Bali villas with plunge pools to beautiful private pool suites in Mexico.
Here, though, we’d like to zero in on the best hotels with private in-room pools in the USA.
Spanning the North American continent from east to west – and including the dreamy islands of Hawaii – the USA offers plenty of luxury hotel rooms, suites and villas that offer this blissful perk for every type of traveler.

Hotels with private pools in-room in Florida
Warm weather, alluring beaches, coastal beauty – the Sunshine State never loses its appeal!
So let’s start with the top Florida hotels with private pools.
1) H2O Suites Hotel
There are several luxury hotels in Key West.
We especially like the H2O Suites Hotel. We think it offers one of the most romantic Florida getaways for couples, just minutes from bustling downtown Key West.
Any couple will be thrilled to spend a few days and nights at this adults-only hotel, where they’ll find the ultimate in private luxury.
Not only do the Premier and Deluxe Luxury Suites offer in-room plunge pools with a private patio, they offer pretty well every other comfort too.
Luxuries include nightly turndown treats like Ghirardelli chocolates and fresh-baked muffins; an Italian marble bathroom with glass rainfall shower; and a private wet bar for mixing your own pool-side cocktails. (Mexican margaritas, anyone?)
Can someone say, “Pour me another”?

2) W South Beach
At the swanky W South Beach Hotel, you’ll find one of the most enviable private pool suites in Florida.
It’s the Mega Bi-Level Suite.
At 1,037 sq. ft., the two-floor suite features a kitchenette, herringbone oak floors, king bed and hand-painted art by local Miami artist Juan Manual Rozas on the powder room walls.
Best of all, the rooftop terrace has a private heated outdoor pool. And it offers panoramic ocean views that are nothing short of spectacular.
Grab a lounge chair and sit back to enjoy those warm Florida nights from your terrace, while taking in the backdrop of white sand and ocean.
The large glass balcony ensures you get the best view from every angle.
Don’t forget to make like a celebrity and use the personal butler service!
If you’re after the perfect blend of South Beach’s lively energy and a deluxe secluded oasis – the mega suite at the W Miami is exactly where you need to be.

3) Suite Dreams Inn by the Beach
For your own romantic little nook in the Florida Keys, whisk your sweetheart away to the deluxe Hemingway Retreat apartment suite at the Suite Dreams Inn. (It’s easy on the wallet too.)
Treat each other to a quiet vacation for two in the spacious 1,100 sq. ft. suite. It comes complete with a private pool and sun deck surrounded by orchids and tropical trees.
Want to invite family or friends?
The Hemingway Retreat has two bedrooms and can sleep up to seven guests. It can even be combined with the inn’s other suites to sleep up to 13 people.
Bonus: You’re only three blocks from the beach here. And you’re welcomed with complimentary key lime cookies and fruit in your suite.

4) Sea Spray Resort
Florida resorts with private pools aren’t exactly plentiful.
But if a room with a king-sized bed and its own private pool in the Sarasota area is what you’re looking for, the Starfish Room at the Sea Spray Resort won’t disappoint.
You’ll get all the privacy you need for the outdoor pool and terrace, which is entirely walled and secured by a locked gate.
Don’t feel like leaving your little private bubble? Fire up your poolside grill for an intimate barbecue, and there’s no need to go outside the resort.
If you do feel like venturing out, there are plenty of great restaurants in Siesta Key to tempt your tastebuds, from oyster bars to Italian bistros.
Siesta Key Beach is also just steps away.
The beach is regularly included in awards for the “world’s most beautiful beaches.”
It was named the #1 beach in Florida in the 2024 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards (best beaches) – and #9 in the whole world.

5) Bayfront Marin House
Watching the sherbet sunset with a cocktail in hand after a dip in your private plunge pool sounds heavenly, right?
You can have this and more at the quaint Saltwater Suite at the Bayfront Marin House, located in historic downtown St. Augustine.
Or ask for the Lagoon Cottage.
It has an ocean view, a private patio with lounge chairs and the ultimate treat – a heated saltwater pool with a waterfall.
You can book this cozy Caribbean-inspired cottage for just the two of you.
But as it can comfortably accommodate up to five people, it works for a family or two couples as well.
The stately feel of this award-winning bed-and-breakfast is a pleasant alternative to a hotel or resort.
Originally built in the 1790s, the Bayfront Marin House mixes antiques with modern comforts like free Wi-Fi, double whirlpool tubs and electric fireplaces.
Upgrading to a suite or cottage with a private pool is just icing on the cake.

Hotels with private pools in-room in California
With cliff-lined beaches, redwood forests, Hollywood, rolling vineyards and idyllic coastal towns, the Golden State is a popular vacation spot.
Pool suites aren’t hard to find either.
The following five California hotels with private pool rooms offer the perfect place to bed down.
6) Bardessono Hotel & Spa
Cocktail pools?
If this sounds enticing, it’s because it is.
The Maple Grove Villas at the 5-star Bardessono Hotel & Spa in California’s Napa Valley wine country give you three villa options – and each includes their own private courtyard and cocktail pool.
(They’re basically private plunge pools, but “cocktail pool” gives a much better idea, don’t you think?)
We’ve gone wine tasting in Sonoma, Napa’s smaller wine region sister.
And we can tell you that after a heady day of swirling, sipping and savoring (no spitting though, as who wants to waste good wine!), sinking into a cool pool is the perfect way to relax – and to enjoy some sunset wine or cocktails too.
Whether you choose the Jasper, Flint or Quartole Villa (all one-bedroom villas), you’ll delight in their cutting edge design.
The floor-to-ceiling stacking glass doors, for example, open onto your private walled courtyard with pool.
How to bring the outside in!
It feels like a natural indoor/outdoor extension of your king-bedded room.
The 1,410 sq. ft. Quartole Villa has a gas firepit outside too. Even in winter, you’ll be toasty by your pool.
The three villas can also be booked as one 3-bedroom haven for the ultimate refined wine country retreat with family or friends. (And just recently, every guestroom was refreshed in a huge renovation project.)

7) Beverly Hills Hotel
A Los Angeles icon, the Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Boulevard stands in a league of its own. It’s about as good as California hotels with private pools come!
For starters, the hotel’s 12 acres of tropical gardens, palm trees and exotic flowers are sure to wow you, L.A.-style.
Stay in Bungalow 5 for the ultimate splurge.
Elizabeth Taylor spent six of her eight honeymoons here. And just like Liz, you’ll get A-list star treatment.
A private pool with private Jacuzzi?
Simply step through the double French doors of the bedroom into the pretty peach-colored courtyard, and you’re there.
Speaking of exclusivity, the 1,835 sq. ft. Presidential Bungalow will impress even the toughest Hollywood critic.
Full kitchen and dining room seating for 10? Fireplaces in the bedroom and living area?
A large outdoor patio bedecked with your own infinity pool (waterfall-edged, no less) and outdoor shower?
Check, check and check!
Add to that a free welcome bottle of champagne, fresh flowers and complimentary LAX airport transfers.
Does it get any better?

8) La Quinta Resort & Club
The high-end La Quinta Resort & Club makes it easy to escape the intense desert heat of the Coachella Valley by offering suites with private plunge pools and hot spas.
For a romantic getaway for two, you can book one of three available King suites.
Enjoy a private dip in your pool. Drink in the stunning mountain view. Follow up with a snuggle with your sweetheart in front of your fireplace.
Or for a larger group, you can select the El Presidente two-bedroom suite, La Quinta’s largest suite.
This suite sleeps up to four guests. And with over 2,000 sq. ft. to roam, there’s lots of space for entertaining indoors.
But you can always move the party outdoors to the expansive patio. There, you and your companions can swim in the pool or relax in your private hot tub.
BTW, you won’t be slumming it if you choose one of the white-washed casitas instead (the resort’s “lowest” room category).
They may not have their own plunge pools. But many have poolside locations. And with 41 pools at the resort, you’re just steps away from a lovely sparkling pool.
You stay cool when dining too.
The luxury resort has four on-site restaurants – La Quinta was the first place where we experienced patio dining with a refreshing misting system.
To top it off, recent renovations to the resort’s lobby and spa mean everything is top notch.
La Quinta Resort, Palm Springs: Check rates and reviews
9) Hotel Bel-Air
You’ve seen it in movies. And it’s just as magnificent when you see the Hotel Bel-Air in real life.
Indeed, in April, 2024, Michelin awarded it (and the Beverly Hills Hotel, # 7 above) three Michelin Keys for “extraordinary stays.” These two gems now belong to an elite group of only 11 hotels in the U.S. to achieve this prestigious Three Key status.
The peaceful posh Hotel Bel-Air in L.A.’s glam Bel-Air neighborhood boasts an acclaimed restaurant, a top-of-the-line fitness center and an award-winning spa (where treatments incorporate skincare products from the elite Swiss brand Valmont).
New in 2024 is a luxurious lobby lounge experience for afternoon tea and evening cocktails – complete with caviar service and a martini/champagne cart.
And let’s not forget the hotel’s oval-shaped outdoor swimming pool.
Hourly treats include lemonade slushies, frozen grape skewers and chocolate-dipped banana slices.
For a private pool in an exclusive setting, you have several specialty suite choices.
The Patio Suite, for example, is elegant and bright, as the sun’s rays from your private patio shine through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Go out through the double doors, and you can slip right into your private plunge pool and leave the world behind.
There’s also the Grace Kelly Suite, with a 1940’s Hollywood-style charm that lives up to its name.
Vaulted ceilings and double doors invite you out into your own plunge pool, wonderfully set in a private garden patio.
For the grand-daddy of all suites, set your sights on the Presidential Suite.
Just one glance at the private infinity pool in its Spanish-style courtyard will make you ecstatic you booked it.
Top that off with a monolithic fireplace, grand piano, chef’s kitchen, heated bathroom floors and more – presidential indeed!
It’s no wonder that the exclusive Hotel Bel-Air has been on every VIP’s list since the late 1940’s.
And any of these three hotel rooms with pools will make for an amazing experience to cross off your bucket list!

10) L’Horizon Resort & Spa
This 1950’s treasure in Palm Springs was once a Hollywood celebrity playground, owned by successful TV producer and oil tycoon Jack Wrather and his actress wife.
Their A-list guests have included the likes of Marilyn Monroe and President Reagan.
Redeveloped as an adults-only luxury boutique hotel, L’Horizon Palm Springs preserves all of its former glory with 25 custom-designed bungalows that exude glamor.
Peer through the glass walls of the Premier Pool Bungalow to glimpse the private plunge pool located right outside on your patio.
Cool feature: From your full-length glass shower, you look out at a private cacti-filled terrarium.
Or book the Fireplace Junior Suite Bungalow, which Marilyn Monroe claimed as her personal bungalow.
You can shower outside under the stars (like Monroe liked to do) and cozy up to the indoor copper-clad, wood-burning fireplace. And just beyond the glass walls of your living room lies a private zero-edge pool.
The king-size bed has a hand-crafted natural fiber mattress for the dreamiest sleeps.
For the ultimate stay? Live the way Wrather once did in his original post-and-beam home.
It’s been refurbished as The Residence.
With a 50s-chic décor, it features a full kitchen and dining area, living room, marble bathroom, large garden with a full-size pool and every other comfort you could ever wish for!

Hotels with private pools in Hawaii
Hawaii and heavenly hotels with swimming pools go hand-in-hand.
If you’re wondering where to stay in Maui, for example, there are so many hotel options you’ll be spoiled for choice!
On the other hand, there aren’t too many resorts in Hawaii with private pools for the rooms. (Understandable, as the ocean is a pool big enough for everyone!)
Anyway, you have to book a villa at a resort to get your own private pool. But for a special occasion, who’s complaining!
11) Fairmont Kea Lani
Located on the gorgeous Wailea Coast in Maui, we can say from experience that the Fairmont Kea Lani promises an idyllic Hawaiian vacation.
Completely reimagined after a two-year reno (completed in 2024), it’s one of the top U.S. honeymoon resorts with private pools.
Of all the romantic things to do on Maui, choosing this place to stay on one of our trips was one of the smartest decisions we made.
The Kea Lani’s beachfront Hawaii villas with private pools provide plenty of space, with two- to three-bedroom options.
The villas feature two master bedrooms (each with Italian marble bathrooms), a full-size gourmet kitchen, private courtyard with barbecue grill and – the star amenity – a plunge pool.
(Just so you don’t get too jealous, we didn’t actually stay in a villa at the Kea Lani. Our guestroom was sweet enough. But we could see the pool villas would add extra zest to an already sublime resort.)
Now, this resort appeals to families too, so you can expect kiddies. But it still has a very romantic feel.
(For an adults-only resort, check out the Hotel Wailea. It’s one of Maui’s best honeymoon hotels. But it doesn’t offer private pool suites.)
Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui: Check rates and reviews
12) Andaz Maui
We love both. But when weighing up Maui vs. Kauai, Maui has a leg up when it comes to having more options for hotels with personal pools.
On Maui, just in Wailea alone (where you find the Fairmont Kea Lani, #11), there’s another stylish resort that offers luxury accommodations with a private pool.
It’s the 15-acre beachfront haven – the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort.
The Andaz has 11 villas. They include amenities like ocean views, gourmet Miele kitchens and a Viking outdoor grill.
Villa guests can also enjoy their own private pool and relax and soak in the spirit of Aloha on their expansive private lanai.
The villas come in two- and three-bedroom configurations, so it’s easy to find your temporary home in paradise, no matter how big or small your group size.
The three-bedroom Oceanfront Villa comes with plenty of perks.
They include daily breakfast at Ka’ana Kitchen (get your vitamin fix from the juice mixologist!), round-trip airport transfers, private SUP lessons and a complimentary minibar with snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
Pssst! Save this post!
Bonus! You'll get our free guide on how to save up to 25% on luxury travel!
Then there’s the ultimate 4,070 sq. ft. four-bedroom King Oceanfront Villa.
Guests in this villa are pampered in luxury with a king-sized bed in every bedroom, five bathrooms, a large private outdoor space with private plunge pool and dedicated VIP Concierge service.
One thing’s for sure. You’ll want for nothing with a villa experience at this 5-star hotel!

13) Four Seasons Resort Hualalai
Chances are that when you first step into the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai on the Big Island, you’ll have the same thought we did: “This is heaven!”
Carved from a black lava landscape, the 5-star resort is one of the most luxurious in Hawaii.
For private quality time in paradise, the Presidential Villa, Makaloa Villa and Ho’onanea Villa will make you swoon. With recent improvements, they’re now the largest villa accommodations in Hawaii.
Design elements include slate floors and eye-catching Hawaiian art pieces – along with private pools.
The 3,740 sq. ft. Ho’onanea Villa offers direct access to the beach too.
Can you fault us if we think the Four Seasons is one of the finest Hawaii resorts with private pools?
But listen up.
Even if you don’t book a pool villa (because you may prefer not to mortgage your house to do so), the resort’s guest rooms and suites have all just been revamped. Main floor rooms have outdoor lava-rock showers.
The resort has seven pools as well.
Wait until you spot the King’s Pond pool!
Like a swimmable aquarium, the 1.8 million gallon pool has a sand bottom and is home to 4,000 tropical fish, a sea turtle and an eagle ray.
So your accommodations are pretty cushy, even if you don’t have your own private infinity pool. And you’re not going to lack for pool time either.
The only downside (though it could be an upside for some) is that the Four Seasons Hualalai is fairly secluded – you can’t walk to other restaurants or shops.

The Windy City is one of the largest cities in the U.S.

Or relax and unwind with your sweetheart in the Majestic Swimming Pool Suite.
Frolic in your own heated swimming pool with a tropical waterfall that cascades overhead. A hot tub, relaxing massage chair and cozy fireplace also await.
Oh, and don’t forget the misting room!
Other suites also have pools, mini pools or hot tubs.
There are also two other Illinois-based hotels like Sybaris in Chicago: the Sybaris (Frankfort) and the Sybaris (Downers Grove).

But for a suite with a private pool, pick one of the Sky Villas or the Empathy Suite on the top floors of the hotel.
If your credit card is calling for a workout, splurge on the Empathy Suite. Sprawling over 9,000 square feet, it’s a visual feast with colorful art works from conceptual artist Damien Hirst gracing every corner.
It’s definitely a pool suite you’ll remember!
Beyond the suites, the Palms has lots going for it – including a Tim Ho Wan dim sum restaurant. (Tthe original Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong won a Michelin star.) And it has a great off-Strip location that’s just a stone’s throw from Las Vegas Boulevard.

Travel gear: See our travel shop to find the best luggage, accessories and other travel gear. (We suggest these comfy travel sandals for city walking, the beach and kicking about.)
