Have you ever checked into a hotel where you’ve said, “OMG, honey, you’ve got to SEE this bathroom!”
We’re no strangers to luxury. After years of travel writing, we’ve splashed out in some pretty epic villa resorts with private pools and overwater villas (like these Caribbean ones).
But every so often, we stumble across a hotel where the bathroom completely steals the show.
It’s like, “Can we spend more time in the tub?”
From showering in a tropical garden in Bali to soaking in a tub while fish drift past your window in Dubai, these are hotels you book for the bathrooms alone.

17+ of the best hotel bathrooms in the world
Below is our full list of the world’s most beautiful hotel bathrooms we’ve discovered – and, yes, we’ve been lucky enough to lather up in quite a few of them ourselves!
Consider this your ultimate soak-worthy bucket list.
1) Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Push open massive teak doors – hand-painted with colorful Lanna-style scenes of Thai dancers and villagers – and you step into your bathing pavilion at Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve.
Many of the hotel’s bathrooms feature frangipani-shaped, terrazzo tubs and purple-domed ceilings soaring at least 20 feet high. Ornate trays hold Salvatore Ferragamo bath products and mother-of-pearl vanity boxes.
We also had a second outdoor bathtub in a desert garden.
And oh, how delightful!
We returned from dinner one evening to find our bathroom glowing with candlelight and the tub filled with soapy bubbles and sprinkled with rose petals. Even our toothpaste had been squeezed onto our toothbrushes, ready for use.
This is easily one of the most luxurious hotel bathrooms we’ve enjoyed!
Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
- Location: Krabi, Thailand
- Bathroom vibe: Regal Thai indulgence, candle-lit and serene

2) Kingston Treehouse

Now this is a loo with a view.
The Kingston Treehouse at Lion Sands Game Reserve in South Africa has a separate glass-and-wood bathroom perched above the trees – surrounded by gasp-inducing wilderness views.
How fun would it be to spot lions prowling below or a giraffe peering into your shower!
Kingston Treehouse
- Location: Lion Sands Game Reserve, South Africa
- Bathroom vibe: Elevated safari drama
South Africa alternative
Gulp! You’ll shell out about $3,500 USD night to stay at the Kingston Treehouse.
You can bathe in luxury for less, though (saving about $800 a night) at Simbambili Game Lodge in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, where we stayed on safari.
Bathrooms here are gigantic, with egg-shaped stone tubs and rain-showers – and your bungalow comes with a private plunge pool.
Chances are excellent that, like us, you’ll see the Big Five animals here too.

3) Shangri-La Hotel, at the Shard

It’s a jungle out there. An urban jungle.
And one of the best places to contemplate London’s urban jungle is from your bathtub at the Shangri-La Hotel, at the Shard.
The hotel is the tallest in London, occupying 18 floors of the iconic Shard building (levels 34 to 52).
Marble bathrooms boast heated floors, mirrors with built-in TV screens, Acqua Di Parma bath products and stunning bird’s eye views through floor-to-ceiling windows.
Soaking here, high above the city lights, feels deliciously decadent.

- Location: London, UK
- Bathroom vibe: Sky-high urban glamor with skyline views
4) andBeyond Mnemba Island Lodge

The most amazing hotel bathrooms are often ones that blur the line between indoors and out – and that’s exactly what we remember from our barefoot stay at the private-island paradise of andBeyond Mnemba Island Lodge in Zanzibar.
Accommodations are in rustic-chic bandas (cottages) with woven grass floors and a deliciously castaway feel.
A covered walkway leads from the bedroom to a separate open-air bathroom, with mirrors hanging from the ceiling (yes – no walls!) and a round coral-lined shower open to the sky. A tiny crab even popped by during one shower – a moment we still smile about.
This is a bathroom experience we’ll never forget.
&Beyond Mnemba Island Lodge
- Location: Mnemba Island, Zanzibar
- Bathroom vibe: Open-air tropical island magic
5) Fairmont Pacific Rim

You’ll want to book a Signature Ofuro room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim.
Because then you’ll get a marble bathroom with a square-shaped, Japanese, deep soaker tub offering spectacular views of Vancouver’s Coal Harbor and snow-capped North Shore Mountains!
Fairmont Pacific Rim
- Location: Vancouver, Canada
- Bathroom vibe: Zen soaking with skyline-and-mountain views
➡️ Don’t miss bicycling around Stanley Park. We lived in Vancouver for many years, and this is a must-do when you’re in the city!
6) Time+Tide Miavana

Imagine castaway eco-luxury at its most exclusive. It probably looks a little like Time+Tide Miavana.
Each of the resort’s 14 luxury villas has a showstopping bathroom, complete with a unique shower tucked inside a stone turret and open to the sky above. There’s also a sunken soaking tub positioned to face the sea.
We had the pleasure of staying at Time+Tide’s Chinzombo safari camp in Zambia.
Ever since, we’ve been quietly lusting to meet crowned lemurs and dive pristine reefs at Miavana in Madagascar. One day…
Time+Tide Miavana
- Location: Nosy Ankao Island, Madagascar
- Bathroom vibe: Barefoot island luxury with indoor-outdoor bathing
7) The Reverie Saigon

When it comes to luxury hotel bathrooms, those in the 13 Romance Suites at The Reverie Saigon are unapologetically over-the-top.
With the help of top Italian designers, the hotel is dressed in a Liberace-meets-Versace style.
Think hand-laid mosaic floor tiling, exquisitely carved Asian furniture and glittering chandeliers.
Is it a bit gaudy? Perhaps. But it’s gaudy in a knowingly lavish, joyfully extravagant way.

This is Vietnam’s only six-star hotel. And it’s vaulted onto our “must-stay” list when we visit Vietnam again.
The Reverie Saigon
- Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
- Bathroom vibe: Italianate opulence, Southeast Asia edition
8) Kayumanis Villas

Of course there are hotels with beautiful bathrooms in Bali!
Our open-air bathroom pavilion at Kayumanis Ubud Private Villas & Spa had no walls on three sides – just a soaring thatch roof and floor.

It quickly became one of our favorite spaces in our 3,000-square-foot walled villa.
The garden was planted with lobster claws, burgundy ginger and calla lilies. Hummingbirds zipped past, squirrels leapt through the trees – and we soaked it all in.
Bathtub? Or outdoor shower, tucked among the ferns? Decisions were made slowly here.
Kayumanis Villas Ubud
- Location: Ubud, Bali
- Bathroom vibe: Open-air jungle romance

9) Silo Cape Town

Turning a grain silo into a 5-star hotel is no easy feat. But, then, the Silo Cape Town is no ordinary hotel – it’s completely visionary.
Each of the bathrooms for the 28 hotel rooms is uniquely styled.
Free-standing bathtubs offer Cape Town views through exquisite, multi-mullioned pillowed windows. Some tubs have an industrial metallic finish, while others have huge crystal chandeliers hanging above.

- Location: Cape Town, South Africa
- Bathroom vibe: Architectural drama with a glamorous edge
10) Areias do Seixo

Bathrooms at Areias do Seixo – a wildly creative boutique hotel by the Atlantic, an hour from Lisbon – pack a punch in character and charm.
Its 14 suites are uniquely decorated according to different themes of “love,” “trees” and “gold.”
Some concrete “tree” bathrooms have leafy trees growing right inside, with logs sculpted into seats for showering.

Other “gold” bathrooms have deep egg-shaped tubs and candle sconces on the walls.
Then there are the two “shelters” (luxury glamping tents), where freestanding copper bathtubs and wood-burning fireplaces offer a more back-to-nature experience.
These are 5-star hotel bathrooms to savor.
Areias do Seixo
- Location: Costa de Prata, Portugal
- Bathroom vibe: Rustic-meets-romantic creativity
11) Atlantis, The Palm

How about gazing at fish, sharks and stingrays while brushing your teeth?
Any hunt for the world’s finest hotels with luxury bathrooms almost always includes the legendary underwater Poseidon and Neptune suites at Atlantis, The Palm – where bathroom views don’t get more surreal than this.
Their bathrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows looking straight into a 3-million-gallon lagoon aquarium, which holds 65,000 marine creatures. Oh, and the soap sparkles with 25-carat gold flakes!
Just be prepared to dole out between $6,500 to $11,000 USD a night.
Atlantis, The Palm
- Location: Dubai, UAE
- Bathroom vibe: Underwater fantasy, dialed way up!
12) Il Salviatino

We’ve only ever dipped into Florence on day trips – most recently during a “quiet season” Mediterranean cruise.
One day, though, we’ll do the city justice and devote at least a few days to exploring its museums and art galleries at a less hurried pace. After all, Florence is one of the most culturally-rich and beautiful places in Italy!
And when we finally stay longer? We can already picture ending each day with a luxurious soak in one of the dreamy suite bathrooms at Il Salviatino.
We hear guests at the restored 15th century villa are greeted with champagne and strawberries.
We can’t think of a better place to enjoy that treat than from a deep tub, steam rising, Florence twinkling somewhere beyond.
Il Salviatino
- Location: Florence, Italy
- Bathroom vibe: Old-world romantic luxury
13) The Cape, a Thompson Hotel

Indulging in a leisurely bath in the freestanding copper-leaf tub at The Cape, A Thompson Hotel is one of those pleasures that feels very Cabo.
From the tub, you can watch TV – or better yet, gaze straight through the bedroom to those dramatic ocean views beyond.
When you finally emerge, slip into a cotton kimono and take a swing on the hanging daybed on your balcony (you’ll find these in Deluxe King Ocean View rooms).
A post-bath sway, salty breeze included? Yes, please!
The Cape, A Thompson Hotel
- Location: Los Cabos, Mexico
- Bathroom vibe: Sleek, sexy ocean-facing soak
➡️ See 7 reasons why we loved The Cape. We think it’s one of Cabo’s finest hotels!
14) Palais Namaskar

Every hotel bathroom needs a heated outdoor plunge pool in a private walled courtyard, right? Palais Namaskar thinks so.
Book a pool villa (or the swoon-worthy 3-bedroom Villa Namaskar) – and frolicking in your bathroom’s pool is part of the deal.

Set amid gardens blooming with bougainvillea, the hotel’s 41 rooms, suites, villas and, get this, palaces (actually really opulent 3- and 4-bedroom villas) are an oasis in bustling Marrakech.
Palais Namaskar
- Location: Marakkesh, Morocco
- Bathroom vibe: Courtyard soaking, Marrakech style
15) Ladera Resort

After getting engaged in Barbados, we escaped to St. Lucia. We stayed at the adults-only Ladera Resort, dramatically perched 1,000 feet up on a volcanic ridge between the island’s iconic twin Piton peaks.
One of the most romantic Caribbean hideaways with private pools, Ladera takes things a step further with its bathrooms.
Each of its 37 unique suites and villas features an open-air bathroom with the fourth wall completely removed – meaning splendid sea, sky and Piton views are part of the experience.
Not only that, every shower is hand-tiled by local artist Mervin Edgar, whose vibrant mosaics reflect the color, rhythm and soul of the island. No two are alike, and getting clean here feels like bathing within a work of art.
Ladera Resort
- Location: St. Lucia, Caribbean
- Bathroom vibe: Colorful open-air artistry
16) Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

They know how to bathe in Bora Bora too – at least at the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora.
Bathrooms in the luxurious bungalows (perched on stilts above the water) open onto the deck, so you never lose sight of that glorious turquoise lagoon surrounding you.
After showering with Panpuri goodies in big ceramic pots, it was always a treat to step out onto the bathroom’s warm polished wood floors and take in that view.
Actually, our whole experience of staying in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora at the Four Seasons was quite dreamy.
Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora
- Location: Bora Bora, French Polynesia
- Bathroom vibe: Lagoon-front perfection
17) Amangiri

Staying at Amangiri’s Camp Sarika is next-level glamping. These 10 tented pavilions rank among the finest USA hotels with private plunge pools.
They also happen to have some of the most romantic hotel bathrooms out there – with deep soaking tubs positioned to face sweeping canyon-and-desert views, separate indoor and outdoor showers, and even bidets.
Spend the day hiking or horseback riding past towering mesas. Then ease into a hot bath before heading outside to sip bubbly by your firepit under a star-splashed sky.

- Location: Utah, USA
- Bathroom vibe: Desert adventure meets spa-level serenity

These are WOW! We hope we get to experience a few of these at least. On our part, we once stayed at Sheesh Mahal (Glass Palace) in Orcha, Madhya Pradesh India. As the name suggests, the hotel is an erstwhile palace. In the Maharaja Suite, the bathroom was made in a turret. So, when we sat on the WC, we could see the entire Orcha town. :D
A loo with a view! We’re tucking that India hotel away for future reference :-). Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Had an amazing experience at Azura Benguerra Island – highly recommend! Can’t wait to check out some of the others on the list. My husband and I are headed to Bali in March of 2017 so I’m excited to look into Kayumanis!
Wonderful to hear you loved Azura Benguerra Island! Though we have to admit we’re a little jealous :-). Hopefully we’ll get to Mozambique too :-). You’ll love Kayumanis as well – when you’re in your villa, it’s so private…
They all look fabulous. I particularly love open air bathrooms and I’ll never forget the welcoming comment at Mandina Lodges in Makasutu Forest, The Gambia. ‘Don’t leave your toileteries in the bathrooom or the baboons will pinch them.’ I didn’t see any baboons in the bathroom there but I did catch one cheeky one with his hand in my bag on the porch when I had my back turned. Luckily I saw him before he could run off with anything.
Oh, wouldn’t that be fun! To spy a baboon in your bathroom! (But no fun if he stole your make-up or shaver.)
Atlantis the Palm looks incredible and the ancient bathtub in Florence is pretty cool too. We’ve just come back from a stay where we luxuriated in a two-tone cast iron tub.
We look forward to reading about that hotel with the iron tub!
Can’t say that I’ve ever stayed in one that would compete with any of these. Wow! I’d have a hard time choosing, but think I would choose the Kingston tree house!
Yes, the Kingston Tree House looks awesome, doesn’t it? Apparently you don’t have to worry about privacy (more accurately the lack of it). Once you’re escorted there come evening, the safari guide leaves you there until the morning, when he picks you up to take you to the main camp – so no concerns about humans peering through the glass :-).
This is one of my absolute favourite round up posts of yours!! So much wanderlust reading this! The photos from Kayumanis bring back fond memories of when I stayed at the Jimbaran branch. The Bora Bora bathroom looks dreamier than most peoples homes and then some!! And most of all, I’m very grateful for the tips and inspiring suggestions for Sabi Sands and for Mozambique – both places I’m absolutely desperate to visit. You’ve certainly brushed your teeth in some lovely places :)
Yes, we’ve stayed at some amazing places… And if we’re both lucky, we’ll both end up going to Mozambique – can’t wait to compare travel notes :-).
What an amazing collection~ Will add a couple of these to my Pinterest Board.
Had a fabulous jaccuzi on our balcony at Cheeca Lodge in the keys – but that shot of Baines Camp takes some beating!
We stayed at Cheeca Lodge many years ago – that’s a lovely place! And like you, we wouldn’t mind gazing up at the stars at Sanctuary Baines Camp, soaking our dusty limbs in a bubble bath – after having spied lots of amazing animals. (We have “safari” on our brains – want to go again. Maybe next year?)
