Hotels with dazzling Aegean Sea views may tempt most visitors who stay on the island of Santorini in Greece.

We’ve been tempted too.

And we’ve stayed in smashing cave hotels high up on the cliff-tops both in Oia and Imerovigli.

But for peace and tranquility away from the tourist hordes, discreet luxury and an idyllic setting overlooking rolling vineyards, head to Vedema, Santorini.

Vedema, Santorini, review

We figured if Vedema was good enough for Brangelina, Lady Gaga and Heidi Klum, it was good enough for us.

We weren’t disappointed.

Vedema is a member of The Luxury Collection of Marriott resorts.

It offers 46 spacious suites and villas.

Boasting a private beach club on a nearby black sand beach, lavish breakfast buffets that include champagne, and a candlelit wine bar in an underground cave, Vedema Resort turned out to be one of our favorite places to stay on Santorini.

Indeed, if looking for great hotels when planning your Greece vacation, put Vedema on your list.

Vedema snuggles up to the medieval Greek village of Megalohori – it’s built right within it.

It’s hard to discern where Vedema starts and the real village ends!

Vedema beach club

In the warmer months, a complimentary resort van shuttles guests every two hours to Vedema’s private beach club on the long black sand beach of Perivolos.

With sunbeds, umbrellas, towels and bar service, you can happily while away a day here.

If hunger strikes and you want a change of scene, simply stroll the leafy street running alongside the beach. It’s lined with fish tavernas galore.

Bottom line? Review of Vedema luxury resort

Stone arches and bougainvillea are part of Vedema's charm

Everywhere we looked at Vedema was a visual treat – bougainvillea, white-washed barrel-shaped suites, volcanic rock arches, cobblestone pathways…

As was the pretty little Greek village of Megalochori, around which the resort is built.
