Thank you for your interest in writing for Sand In My Suitcase!
We accept quality guest blog submissions from independent travel writers and bloggers. If you’re a blogger who wishes links back to your blog, your blog must have been live and operating for at least one year.
We receive many inquiries from people who wish to write guest posts for us. Please read the writer’s guidelines below before emailing us with your proposed idea.
The content must be relevant to our viewers (e.g., luxury travel, cruises, soft adventure activities, etc.). We don’t cover budget travel (e.g., camping and hostels). You should be able to speak from personal experience about the travel subject and know it well.
Types of posts we’re looking for:
- Best things to do in X
- Where to stay in X
- Day trips from X
- Best places to visit in X
- 10 best restaurants in X
- Adventure guides to specific places, e.g., “hiking X mountain”
- Articles about specific museums, temples or other cultural sights
- Cruise reviews
- Packing lists (e.g., What to pack for a trip to X)
- Itineraries and travel guides (e.g., “3 days in X” or “An X road trip itinerary”)
Include helpful travel tips in different sections under headings like:
- When to go to X
- Where to stay in X
- Fun facts about X
Guest post submissions should be between 1,500 and 3,000 words. Your post should completely answer a reader’s questions about that particular subject.
Quality of writing
We are fussy when it comes to the quality of writing. Keep the style conversational and be sure to include lots of rich colorful details. Stay away from generic adjectives like “great” and “beautiful.”
Use headings, and check your grammar and spelling.
Articles on our site are published in American English.
Please provide us with at least four good quality images (minimum size 1,000 px wide). Note: We require you to own or have publication rights to these images. Photos can be sent via a Dropbox link (or similar).
We may also include images that we source from copyright-free sites or tourism boards.
Your post may contain two links back to your own blog posts. Links cannot link back to a product, advertisement or commercial entity.
We also encourage you to include links to quality sources (e.g., a National Geographic article).
Any links you place will have to be approved by us.
Your submission must be original, i.e., has not and will not be published anywhere else. It also cannot be on the same topic as an article or post you’ve previously written about on your site or elsewhere.
You understand that if we publish your guest post, you are giving up ownership of the post to us.
We reserve the right to edit your post for grammar, to suit our editorial style and for SEO purposes. We may also include our own affiliate links or links to our own posts, if relevant. We’ll send the edited post back to you to review before publication.
Social media promotion
We’ll promote your post on Pinterest, as well as Facebook and our other social media networks (and we may use the images submitted for this purpose).
Bio and Headshot
We’d like you to please send a headshot or photo of yourself, along with a brief bio (can be two or three sentences) for the author section. We’ll also include a link back to your blog in your bio.
